Consultation on waste and recyling service

Sydenham Assembly 7.30pm Thursday 17 September

Lewisham are changing the way we collect waste and recycling. We need to comply with new regulations that were introduced on 1 January 2015. To do this we must show our collection arrangements maximise the amount of paper, metal, plastic and glass that is recycled and improve its quality, taking into account technical, environmental and economic practicalities.

By 2020 we have to show that 50% of all our waste is either recycled, reused or composted. If we do not meet this UK-wide target then the Council is likely to face significant fines.

We are asking for your views on the options. These would include options for collecting different materials for recycling separately, rather than altogether as we do now. Changes like this could mean more bins and boxes for residents to use and changes to the frequency of some collections.

Please come along to the meeting on Thursday to hear more - or go online for the video and survey
